Fun and Affordable Piano and Keyboard Lessons
Welcome to A to G Piano and Keyboard Tuition. If you are a beginner looking for enjoyable and inexpensive/low-cost music lessons, then as my slogan reads, I can provide "fun and affordable piano and keyboard lessons". I am both a piano teacher as well as a keyboard teacher located on the east side of Southampton, and my prices start from as little as £10.50 per lesson.
Learn to play straight away on my baby grand piano or on one of my keyboards using sheet music composed specifically for your own ability.
Understand musical theory to support the reading of sheet music and navigation of the instrument.
Optionally take exams to consolidate your progress.
At my music studio in Southampton, I offer tuition on my baby grand piano or keyboards, to students ranging in ability from absolute beginners and onwards. As well as adults of all ages, I welcome children aged 7 and upwards who want to learn to play the piano or keyboard.
My teaching philosophy is to guide and support students to play recognisable and enjoyable music at an early stage. To support this, I have compiled my own arrangements of popular pieces that are easier to read and play. I can also provide colour coded sheet music, or sheet music with note names, for beginners who find normal notation too challenging at first. I also support students wishing to take ABRSM graded music exams since I realise this can provide structure, goals and qualifications that can be highly motivating. During 2017, my students who took exams achieved a total of 23 passes, including 12 merits and 4 distinctions. I am so proud of them!
The lessons can be taken either in a class with one or two other students of similar ability, or if preferred, on a one-to-one basis. Contact details can be found here. Price and other frequently asked questions can be found here.
My name is Sylvia Ede and I have been playing piano since the age of seven. I passed grade 8 final at the age of fifteen and have since been teaching.
As well as classical music, I am interested in playing traditional/swing jazz, as well as popular music.
Growing increasingly interested in playing popular music, I started to play/teach using electronic keyboards, taking advantage of rhythm, voice and chorded accompanyment.
I am also interested in composing music. I also rearrange music to suit the individual needs of my students.
This pricing is for private one-to-one tuition. Payment is expected during the lesson itself, but if the student prefers to pay in advance then that is also acceptable. Pricing for classes depends on class sizes so please contact me directly for this information.
See the pricing section here.
I aim to have between two and three students in each class.
Most classes would be run once a week.
Students can stay with a class for as long as needed.
Classes are the cheaper option but of course my time is divided between students. Classes are also a way of sharing experiences with students of similar ability and this usually helps to create an atmosphere of encouragement and support. Private tuition, although more expensive, is better if you cannot commit to a regular day and time for a class.
Please contact me for latest information.
I can try to assess you during a phone conversation, otherwise, you could book a private lesson during which I can make a more accurate assessment.
The choice is up to you and really depends on your aspirations. I find keyboards to be more practical and flexible than a piano in many ways, and that is why I continue to use them for teaching. My keyboards have full size touch sensitive keys and for the student wishing to play piano pieces, they are suitable for beginner/intermediate lessons. If progressing to an advanced level, the student can transition to piano with relative ease. If you are still unsure, then I can help you decide.
For private tuition, I would accept payment during the lesson. For classes, I aim to take payment for 4 lessons at a time, but I am quite flexible.
By cash or cheque made payable to Mrs S. Ede.
